About Dr. Oris

I completed my M.D. degree in 1978 at New York Medical College. I went on to do a Pediatrics Internship at Geisinger Medical Center, Adult Psychiatry Residency at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Hospital, and a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at New York Medical College Metropolitan Hospital. I completed several years at the NYU Psychoanalytic Institute. As a result of my involvement in school psychiatry over the past 25 years, I am currently enrolled in a Master's program in Educational Leadership.

I currently consult to over 35 school districts in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, in addition to Westchester County. My school mental health consultation services include:

  • Individual psychiatric evaluations of students for purposes of threat assessment, school refusal, decline in academic functioning, behavioral issues and suspensions, and suicidality.

  • Providing recommendations to both school districts and families for optimal psychiatric and psychological interventions for students struggling with mental health issues

  • Assisting schools with decisions regarding optimal educational placements of students

  • Consultation to school district’s Committee on Special Education

  • Assisting school district’s communication with local mental health agencies and psychiatric hospitals

  • Providing school districts with professional development for staff members, including teachers, nurses, guidance counselors, social workers and psychologists.

  • Providing parent workshops for school districts on topics related to child development, parenting practices, and mental health issues in children and teenagers.
